Some days I really hate my job, other days I love it. I currently work the front desk at an Urgent Care clinic, I've been with this company for 7 years now. I started out in housekeeping, transferred to the Emergency room and finally found a home here. Where I sit at a desk and wait for the next person to grace me with their presence, oh the joy. Half the time I can't believe they would come here for their "problem" I guess at least they came here instead of the ER which is where they would have gone before we opened. I just feel that our community should better educate it's members on what is Urgent Care appropriate and what is Emergency Room appropriate. This is such a big pet peeve of mine. And I almost flipped my wig when someone took an ambulance to the ER for a toothache, yes I said a toothache! But I have to bite my tongue and treat them as any other patient.
So a little education for those they may not know.
When to use an Urgent Care:
*Earaches
*Sore Throats
*Simple Fractures
*Sprains & Strains
*Minor Burns
*Cold/Flu Symptoms
*Urinary Tract Infections
*Minor Cuts
When to use the Emergency Department:
*Head Injuries
*Chest Pain
*Severe bleeding or burns
*Loss of consciousness
*Abdominal pain
*Difficulty Breathing
*Seizures
*Life-threatening situations
You wouldn't believe the amount of people that come to us because they are having chest pain or they think they have an appendicitis- Hello we can't perform surgery here!
We are a free standing clinic with limited supplies, please don't get mad at me when I tell you we don't have the ablilties to handle you life threatening illness. - And that's the end of my rant for the day.
