Little of this, little of that.

Things have been busy around here. Packing and moving things to the new house...moving stuff out of the new house to the new{er} house that is now occupied by my FIL. Today Mr.B had to go mow his our lawn. It’s about an hour and a half job. Meanwhile I was packing up the rest of the garage and loading it to go to my FIL’s house.

Our House on the Hill

Today we also paid rent on our little rental house for the last time. That means our official move date is getting really close. And I feel we still have so much left to do and I’m not sure when we are gong to get it done. But as many times as we have moved we are pros and it shouldn’t take long. In fact we once packed and moved everything from one house to another in 1 day! Yup...1 day to pack and move everything. And when we moved into this house it only took a weekend to be done. I hope we have such good luck this time around.

My dad is doing much better. He was released from the hospital on Friday and is now settled in at home. He’s not to thrilled about the low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium diet he is on, but I can’t say I would be thrilled with it either. But he has a positive attitude, well with me on the phone anyways, I’m sure he’s not so positive with my step-mom. He’s up and walking a lot which is good since I’m sure he’s driving my step-mom crazy sitting at home. He never was one to just sit around...I wish I’d have gotten that gene from him. So he’s happy to be able to walk around. His visiting nurse said he’s recovering rather quickly but I wouldn’t expect anything less from him.

We’re planting a garden this year but I’m not sure what to plant. Any ideas? This will be the first year we’re doing one so I’d like simple things to plant, lol.

I was thinking summer squash, zucchini, and cucumbers for this year since I’m starting late. Plus I have a tomato and strawberry topsy turvy. I was also thinking about some herbs (which I just noticed they had a tomato/herbs topsy turvy) but I’m not set on which ones yet. I just hope I’m not biting off more than I can chew. I also think I need to do some more research as I really have no idea what I’m doing, lol. So any help from those of you who are garden growers would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the spot I’ve picked and my FIL will be tilling it soon so I can get started:

Well I think that’s all for this update. With everything that’s gone on the last week I haven’t had much time for the internet and I feel a little behind on my blog reading. Guess I know what I’ll be doing during my down time tomorrow.

That's an excellent spot for your garden! In addition to what you mentioned, peppers are also nice and I'm experimenting with eggplant this year. I also purchased a strawberry topsy turvey but I didn't know there was one for use with herbs ... cool!

Glad your dad is better!

What a pretty house. I am also trying a tomato topsy turvy. I'm setting it up tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes.

Congrats on everything!

And if you add parsnips to your garden plan you can have roasted veggies come fall....

Congrats on the new house! Tomatoes and peppers are pretty easy, as are zucchini (unless you got squash bores like we do) ... and herbs tend to take over once you start them (basil is great with tomatoes!). Good luck ... and happy ICLW! (#149)

I love to grow tomatoes and basil in my garden. I also have lettuce going, too, but the snails are getting it.

Glad your father is recovering nicely.

As one you just moved - ugh - my sympathy is with you. So much work. Looks like a great place of a garden.

Love the new house, and especially that deck. WOOT! Love the spot for your garden as well. I wanted to do one, but still haven't got around to it, and like you it's so late in the season already. I agree with the pepper plants addition from above, you could do cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, or green beans still at this point.

Glad your dad is doing better. I wen through something similar with my dad in March and it tore me apart. There are some great cookbooks out there for low sodium/cholesterol diets!
