Never forget the decimal point.

Yesterday I was awoken from a nap to my OB office calling. The nurse on the phone said she had some good news and some bad news. So of course my heart sank as the last time she called was to tell us we were high risk for Downs. So what could possibly be wrong now?

She told me that Bronson Maternal Fetal medicine called her to go over my test results as something wasn’t right. Apparently when our stuff was sent from the local lab to the Genetics lab they put a 14 instead of a 1.4 as one of the results. Well the 14 itself automatically made us high risk ad that is super high for what ever test they marked it on. But a 1.4 makes us in the normal range. She said in fact if someone at the lab would have noticed it before resulting the test they would have seen a 14 is not possible. Which means we are no longer high risk for downs!!! Talk about breathing a sigh of relief. There is no reason for us to go to Bronson on Monday so our appointment is cancelled!

I then said well we were hoping to be able to find out the gender at this appointment and I don’t have another u/s scheduled with you guys. So she said that the u/s tech would be there at my appointment on December 2nd so we could do it all that day. Well that would be ok other than I really want to know before Thanksgiving. So I asked if there was any way to order an elective one at our hospital the week of Thanksgiving. She said that the tech would be there the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and I will be 18 weeks that day so she will ask the doctor if we can order it then!! So hopefully I will still get my wish of knowing and being able to announce it to family on Thanksgiving.

Then we got off the phone...which now leaves me wondering what the bad news was? I mean everything she told me was good...our baby is fine!!! So I’m guessing that the bad news was the lab made a mistake?!?!?

what a mistake!! Just know that doctors don't know everything, but they have to pretend to just in case something goes wrong! For weeks, they insisted that Jaina had IUGR (inter uterine growth retardation) because she was measuring too small. They threatened me with a c-section at 37 weeks. I kept insisting that my dates might be wrong. She was born two weeks "late" with all the signs that she was born completely on time. 7 lbs, 10 oz. Sometimes doctors can't see the forest through the trees!

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
