Being the crunchy mom I’m not, lol, I’ve decided to make my own baby food. It was actually quite easy and took all of 15 mins to whip up a batch of sweet potatoes. Not counting the cool down time of course. I love this site and have been reading it for many months now, so many of my ideas will come from there.
I did take the lazy route and microwave my sweet potatoes today, but that’s because it was my 1st attempt and I was only making 2 potatoes. Next time when I do a variety of veggies I will bake them as microwaving can take out a bit of nutrients. And if I’m going to go through all of the trouble to make the food it better contain as many nutrients as possible.
But I washed the potatoes and then cooked them in the skins. I just poked a few holes in them and cooked for 6 mins.
Then I let them cool for an hour or so while I played with little man who discovered his feet a few days ago.
Once cooled I just peeled the skins off. It was super easy to peel, I thought I was going to have to cut the skins off. So I was happy when they just peeled right off.
I then just threw them in the food processor and used the pulse button for a few seconds. Checked it out to see how thick it was.
I then added a tad bit of water, you can also use breast milk. But you can’t use frozen breast milk if you plan to freeze it again. Which I only have frozen so I had to use water as I was freezing this batch.
Now that it’s a nice smooth consistency I put it in containers to freeze. I planned to use an ice cube tray but since we have an ice maker in our fridge the only trays we had were in the basement with tools and dust and dirt all over them. But I have all these little plastic containers that we had used for jello shots so I used those.
I ended up with 10 cups full out of 2 potatoes I bought for $1.
Not bad for 15 mins of work and $1. Next weekend I think I’ll try making several batches of different veggies. I’m actually kind of excited about it.
