Guess who has to have surgery, yup, me that's who. oh joy
I've been having knee problems for quite sometime now. Back in December I had a series of Synvisc shots. I didn't feel like these had done any good as I still continued to have some pain during the last 6 months.
That was until about a week ago. I started having a lot more pain in my knee, pain that would wake me up at night. My knee was swelling and I was beginning to limp. So I made an appointment with my Ortho doctor that did my shots. He said that it looked like the shots did do some good, as they last 6 months, and It had now been almost 7 when the pain intensified. But since the pain didn't go away completely he felt that I needed to have a scope done, because maybe they missed something on the MRI, or the thinning had just gotten worse since my MRI. But either way I was going to end up needing to have the scope so they mys well do it sooner than later.
He's also thinking that while he's in their "cleaning out" the mess he may need to do a Micro Fracture. Which means drilling small holes into my knee cap and allowing it to bleed and clot and form scar tissue in the area where my cartilage should be. It works well on young people as they can regenerate faster than older people. That was another reason for doing this sooner rather than later.
So, looks like on September 10th I'll be laid up for 3-4 weeks if he just does a scope and 6-8 weeks if he does the micro fracture. I'm hoping for a scope only, but if I need the other than I know it was needed. I have complete trust in the surgeon performing this procedure and know that he will only do what is absolutely necessary.
Now I'm off to my appointment with my OB/Gyn. I guess I will be discussing putting TTC on hold for 2 months, as I can't be pregnant for surgery and I'm sure I won't be up to trying after the surgery. Maybe a small break will help in the end, one can only hope, right?
